Litter Documentary Evaluation

This post follows on from my last post about the DSLR Training and this goes into more detail about our documentary and how we think it went she we filmed it and how it turned out.

Heres the documentary without the feed back first so that you can see the documentary first.

The documentary

Here is the documentary without the feedback

I feel that the documentary was a success and that it filled all of the necessary criteria for a documentary. But there was however some problems with the documentary like the focusing was off in some of the shots and the documentary as a whole was too long. Also one of the people giving us feedback said that they had never seen photo's in a documentary before so there was some dispute about this.

Feedback and evaluation

Our litter documentary and peer assessment

The main noticeable problem that we noticed when we had filmed the documentary was that most of the shots were not focused properly. They were focusing on the wrong objects. i.e. when we were interviewing Mrs Kearsey the camera was focused on the background rather than her so it didn't really work very well so where we could we put other shots over of litter or children dropping litter.
Another problem that we all pointed out was that the sound track didn't fit the documentary at all, it was too morbid. It sounded like it would fit the aftermath of a battle field better. We thought this when we were making the film and looking for backing tracks but we thought that we would test it anyway; trial and error and in this case error.
Now onto better things, people thought that we had many good ideas but the focusing and length of the documentary let us down. Most people also like the idea of having photos in the documentary but there was on person who had never seen them in documentaries before so there was a little clash of opinions there.

Over all we see our documentary as a success but before we begin filming the main film we should make sure that we brush up on our focusing skills and learn how to use the camera a bit more effectively.

Shooting sessions

Our shooting sessions in my opinion when well and we gathered enough b-roll footage to make up for the lack of focus in the interviewing shot with Mrs Kearsey. For filming the footage we had one day for Deanna and Cameron to go out and film and then me and Charlotte went out the next day to get some more b-roll footage. Then Me, Cameron and Deanna did the interview with Mrs Kearsey. But we didn't notice the focusing error at the time.
