Training in how to use the Digital DSLR-600D
For this year we are using this new camera called the DSLR and we had some trouble at first because it was so much different to the cameras from last year. So we looked up on the internet and asked the teacher a few things and now we can do the basic things and some of the advanced things. We were also tasked with making a short documentary about litter so that we could get some experience in using the camera. Here is an example of a YouTube that we used to help us understand the how to use the cameras:
This is only one of many videos that we looked at to try and grasp how to use the cameras.
Aperture/ISO/Shutter speed
These are things that you have to pay attention to when using the DSLR. Here is a diagram to show how the three elements effect the shots that you capture with the camera:
If you get the exposure (all the elements make the exposure) of a shot correct then you can have anything happen in the scene and it will still look good. But if you cannot get this right then it is better to have a scene overexposed (lighter) rather than underexposed (darker) so you can just put a filter on latter in post production to make the scene darker to correct the exposure.
Here are three examples of the same shot but one is overexposed, one underexposed and one that's got the exposure correct:
Correct exposure
Overexposed
Underexposed
The three examples show how exposure effects a scene and only ISO and Aperture really effect exposure. Shutter speed is generally set at double the frame rate of the film you are shooting and we are using 24fps so we should shoot at a shutter speed of 48fps but the camera only goes up in tens so we choose the closest one which is 50fps.
Here is a video of how to change the Aperture and ISO to get the best shot possible:
This is just one of a few videos that we watched in one of our hour long lessons so that we could try and get our heads round how to use the camera.
Then we went to making our first films with the new camera and we worked in groups of four and my group all participated to the best of their abilities. Although we struggled with the focusing at one point I think that we have learned form that mistake and wont do it again with the final film.
Also we have found out each others strengths and weaknesses so that when we make the final film we know what each of us can do well and what we cant do well.
